Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here we've recorded answers to your most frequently asked questions about our service. If you can't find what you are looking for here, do contact us!What are the addresses I can get a taxi fare estimate for?
We cover any addresses that you will be able to find on GoogleMaps. GoogleMaps uses TeleAtlas to get all the road and postcode data. This is fairly comprehensive with respect to street locations. However, we can also find places of interest (restaurants, monuments, schools, etc..) and give you a taxi fare estimate from one to another! That's should cover..well...nearly everything that exists on a map!
Why is my local taxi company not listed in your results?
That's because they are either not listed on Google or on Thomson Local. If they wish to be listed on our website alone, then please let them know about our website and we'll discuss the terms of our listing with them.
How do you compute my cab fare?
Your estimated taxi fare is computed using the route provided by GoogleMaps, and your set time and date ('now' if not specified) at which you start your trip. We do not yet take into account the waiting times you may face during your trip or the costs of going beyond the region within which the taxi operates (coming soon!).
We compute taxi fares based on Hackney carriage Fares specifications provided by individual local authorities in the UK. Hence, it is important to note that Private Hire (taxi companies you call using the numbers provided), may charge you slightly different fares as they are not regulated. However, they tend to be not too far off from those of Hackney carriages and can usually be negotiated prior to your trip, particularly if it's going to involve going out of town!
Each council has its own specification of tariffs. For example Greater London has a different tariff for daytime, week ends, and bank holidays. Our taxi fare calculator takes into account the time at which you start your trip in order to apply the right tariff to your trip.
What regions does your taxi fare calculator cover?
We cover most of the local councils in the UK. If you find that your area is not covered, please let us know and we will make sure we add it as soon as possible.
Which browser does Pricemycab's taxi fare calculator work on?
We have tested on latest versions of Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Chrome and find that it works fine. We've also tried it on the iPad and iPhone's Safari browser and find that it's a bit fiddly but it works! We aim to get out a mobile friendly version of the service soon. Watch this space!
How certain are you about your estimated taxi fares?
Well, we are fairly certain about these estimates when there is no traffic. Hence, it may turn out that when you add traffic delays to your trip, you will have to pay some time-based charges or waiting charges. Since every trip is different, we can't really estimate that but if you find a significant difference between our estimate and what you pay, please let us know and we'll improve our fare computation algorithm!.
